School Countdown
Gabriel starts kindergarten just 2 short weeks from tomorrow. He is VERY excited about it and I am doing my best to be excited about it (at least in front of him-when he is not around I cry about it and really have just been feeling and acting bitchy to everyone). I know he is ready. He is SO ready to learn to read. And he is very excited about playing soccer this fall. But it sure is tough on this momma. I feel like I am losing him. I know I will still have him home every night but he will be spending the majority of his day with other people. Other people that I have no control of. No control of what they say, what kinds of crap he learns, their values, just everything. Including Fridays (which I am off)-they have always been our fun day to do nothing if we want to. Why can't school be Monday-Thursday? Guess Fridays will now be my "go to school and have lunch" day. Everyone has told me I CANNOT go the first Friday for lunch, what do ya'll think?? I personally see no reason why I can't go the very first day to have lunch with him but others think this is a bad idea :) Elizabeth will be going back to preschool the following week, right after Labor Day. She will be going on Tuesdays and Thursdays this year. She is also beginning gymnastics on Friday mornings, so that is something I am really looking forward to. Both the kiddos have new backpacks and some new clothes and kicks, so I guess they are ready. We went to town and got things on the school supply list for Gabriel. Four packs of 24 count Crayola crayons. What the hell are they doing, eating them? I should be glad it was only 4 packs. When I was in Raleigh visiting Laura we looked at a list and they asked for 8 packs. Not that we can't afford 4 packs of crayons. And honestly I don't mind helping out for others that are in need. But the school my kiddos will be at doesn't have too many of those types. It is a bit uppity with lots of lake folks that are NOT from this neck of the woods (aka Yankees). Not that I don't like Yankees because many of them are just fine. But if you are from my town and had to deal with all the people that moved down hear and complain about the roads, the way we talk, etc. you would understand. I just don't think there are that many kids that can't afford their own crayons. I want my kids to learn to take care of their crap. We use crayons around here even if they are broken. Just pull off the paper and keep on using them. And whatever happened to the crayons that had the crayon sharpener built into the box? 4 boxes just seems too many. And don't even get me started on the amount of glue sticks we had to buy! Ok my school rant is over for today. Heading to campmeeting to have some fun with my babies :) Trying to forget that 2 weeks from TONIGHT will be "the night before kindergarten". And yes, I have already bought that book for us to read :)

Morgan,
This post had me laughing out loud!!
I no longer go totally by the list.
We look in our {crayon bin} and the kids find one of each color and put them in their boxes--from last year.
We do not get new every year...
Scissors we keep and re-use etc.
That is a hell ova lotta crayons!!??
I think they might waste a lot.
If I were the K teacher I would ask for four tubs of
Clorox wipes...LOL
Hang in there...and ABSOLUTELY eat lunch with your baby the first week--on Friday.
Kindergartners are babies, and they love for their moms to come eat with them--even the tough ones. ;).
Haha! Miss you girl! I feel your pain, well all except the supply list, ours was very reasonable. And just so you know, at orientation the teacher looked right at me and said we ask parents not to come visit until after Labor Day. (We started August 7th last year.) :)
