SNOW! Part 1

This past weekend there was a chance of snow on Saturday.  It did nothing all day, except for a few little flurries that you could barely see.  Around 2:30, mom and I headed over to Mooresville to do a little shopping.  We started off at K@hl's.  After we had been in there for about an hour, mom got a call from dad  telling us it was snowing like crazy.  We looked outside and he was right!  We finished up our shopping (we were going to leave all those good deals behind just because there was a little snow) and were in line checking out when Cedric called telling us to get home ASAP.  So nice to know our men do care about us! Once we got in the car, it had just about stopped and the roads were completely clear so we decided to hit up T@rget before heading in.  After shopping there, we headed home, just as the snow was starting to fall heavily again. Once home, we got both kiddos bundled up in their snow gear. They had a blast playing in the snow with mom that night before it got dark.  They had a huge snowball fight and mom was blasted in the face by Gabriel. Elizabeth was more interested in eating the snow than anything else! They both made snow angels! And you can tell from Rocky's face that he was not all that excited about the cold on his paws!  After playing, we cooked waffles, livermush, sausage and eggs and warmed up!

ASCP Updates

Just had to post my finished desk!  I am in love with it.  I also have a wooden chair I found for $8, I am going to paint it the same green as the drawers I believe...maybe this weekend if the weather is nice (I do most of my big painting in the garage).  Mom and me also did a few small things on Sunday.  This is a duck decoy that Christine gave her, it was one of Uncle Gary's.  We put a little paint on it and dad mounted it on a base which we painted grey.  It turned out beautiful and mom has it on the hearth in her living room.  We found out about another class in Statesville from Christine.  This is supposed to teach us a way to make our own chalk paint without having to buy the  ASCP which is pretty pricey.  I am very excited about this and am treating mom to this class for her birthday. Christine is going too so we will have a fun ladies afternoon!!!

ASCP-My New Obsession

So, Cedric likes to tease me about how I  always have some type of "project" going on...He thinks if I didn't, I would wind up on his floor at the hospital...In his opinion, I have too much going on in my brain and a hard time just sitting down and doing nothing...So my "projects" serve as an outlet for all that restless energy and brain power (which is not a bad thing if you ask me!).  What is funny about this to him is how my interests change.  I was head over heels with hair clip/bow making, all about mod-podge, obsessed with couponing...and this has just been the past year alone :)  I have a tendency to get obsessed with something and just run wild with it...until I get bored with it and move on to the next adventure!  Which is what this blog is about :)  Right now my latest thing is painting with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. 

I was introduced to this fantastic paint on my last trip to see my buddy Laura (who has the same type of "project" obession that I do)...When we get together, we are always making something, figuring out a way to make something in the future, etc. So much fun! She had learned about this paint from her family friend Ms. Kim, who had taken a class on it. Laura had painted an accent table that had been Grandma Juel's and it turned out BEAUTIFUL! Now I have attempted to paint furniture before and it didn't turn out so well so I gave up. But Laura and Miss Rhonda assured me that this paint is so easy to use. No sanding, priming, etc. Just paint it on and then wax it if you desire. Ms Kim came over and brought some of her samples from the class she took. I just loved them. After painting, you can distress by sanding, rubbing, etc. Then once you was with clear/dark/both waxes, it just turns out beautiful. Old looking, vintagey, gorgeous!!!!

Laura and I both purchased some paint and brought it to our girls weekend at the beach. Brianne and Cynthia thought we were crazy, but crafting is therapeutic for us.  We painted it up and had a blast!  After the beach trip, I found a local place (well kind of local-an hour away) that sells the paint. I went to purchase some paint and also signed up to do a class.I went for a 3 hour class on a Saturday afternoon.  It was awesome, got to bring in something to paint and learned many helpful techniques.  I ended up buying a wooden side table and painted it red.  Also did a footstool that was my great-grandmother's. However, I wasn't thrilled with how it turned out and I am in the process of re-doing it.   Here are pictures of a few things I have finished. Right now, I am working on a desk and chair for the "nook" in the bedroom. The desk is 90% complete and I hope to finish the chair this weekend. I found an old white desk/shelf at a consignment shop, then found an oak chair to go with it at a Habitat Restore.  I will post pics when I am finished with it, it is beautiful!  I love hunting Goodwill, Habitat, and other thrift stores now, it is so fun to fine something cheap and fix it up!

Look at the detail on this, love how you can see the white paint, red paint, and even the dark wood underneath.

This was a white milk glass bottle-painted it with Duck Egg then waxed with dark wax to show the detail.

Happy Valentine's Day

7 Years!

Happy Anniversary to my sweet hubby Cedric.  Can't believe it has been 7 years already, guess what they say is true, time flies when you are having fun!  Things sure have changed for this crowd in the past 7 years...What once was a wild and crazy group of 8 friends has now expanded into a group of 16 (4 mommas, 4 daddies and 8 beautiful children)...and yes, we are still wild and crazy, we just need WAY more recovery time than we used to!   

I love you babe and look forward to celebrating many more anniversaries with you...can't wait until 10 years, think we will deserve a getaway trip for that one!
