The First 2 Days....only 178 more to go!

Alright, the first 2 days of school are over, my have they been busy! Even though I have not pulled kids yet for speech, these last 2 days have been very CRAZY and filled with lots of meetings and paperwork, my 2 favorite things about being a school-based SLP :(

Here's an example: Today at school, one of the new kinders, who will also be seen by yours truly for speech, bit her kinder teacher between the belly button and the pelvic region, IT DREW BLOOD! This girl has multiple issues and has had severe tantrums the past 2 days, in which she punches, screams, bites, etc. Her teacher is very concerned about me working with her, because when she tantrums, she punches in the stomach area of the adult. Needless to say, I am not looking forward to this and plan on going into the classroom to work with her, instead of pulling her into my speech room for therapy. I am going to privately refer to her from here on out as "the vamp", so be sure to check back for more stories, I think she is really going to make things interesting this year..

This afternoon, I was involved in an IEP meeting regarding a high school student. It began at 2:45 and was still going strong when I left at 5:00. God, I hate this part of my job. But on the plus side, I do love my new office (I was moved over the summer) and tomorrow I will begin to see my speech kids, who have all stopped by to see when they are coming to see me. This is why I love being a school based SLP.

Not much else going on, I have been tired at night, not used to getting up at 6:00 a.m. Tomorrow after school, I am getting my hair done, cut and dyed a new color--not exactly sure what color but check back soon, I will try and post a pic. Ever so often, I get sick of having blonde hair and need a change, this is one of those times! This weekend, I am headed to the UNC game, they play at 6:00 on Saturday--GO HEELS!!!

WOW! That kid sounds like she belongs in my old classroom! That's impressive...good luck and watch out for your belly!
